Acupuncture is often the thing people try last, usually after everything faster has already been attempted. It works differently from an adjustment, and for some problems it reaches what manual care cannot.
At Momentum Health Center acupuncture is not a service squeezed into the chiropractic diary. We have two licensed acupuncturists and a separate acupuncture schedule. Dr. Lindy Camardella holds a doctorate in acupuncture and Chinese medicine, trained at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, and has served as president of the Illinois Society of Acupuncturists since 2018. Dr. Tiffani Alwazan is a licensed acupuncturist with naturopathic training, over 20 years of experience, and she is bilingual. Acupuncture is the second most mentioned subject across our 419 Google reviews.
What Is Acupuncture?
Very fine, sterile, single-use needles are placed at specific points to influence how your nervous system and circulation respond in that area. Most people feel a dull heaviness rather than a sharp sensation, and many find the session itself deeply restful. Chinese herbal medicine is available alongside treatment where it fits, and needle-free approaches exist for patients who would rather start there. A typical course is a series of sessions rather than a single visit, and we will give you a realistic sense of how many at the start. Because acupuncture runs on its own schedule here, it is straightforward to combine with a chiropractic plan in the same week. If you have never had acupuncture before, say so when you book and the first session will be paced for that.
Benefits of Acupuncture
What patients most often come to us for:
- Pain That Has Not Responded: Acute and chronic pain where manual care alone has plateaued.
- Inflammation: Systemic inflammatory patterns rather than a single sore joint.
- Women's Health: A particular focus of Dr. Alwazan's practice.
- Stress and Sleep: Patients frequently report both improving before their main complaint does.
- Autoimmune Conditions: Supportive care alongside whatever else you have in place.
- Herbal Medicine: Custom formulas prepared where they are appropriate for you.
Common Conditions Acupuncture May Help
Our licensed practitioners work alongside the chiropractic team on:
- Headaches and migraines
- Neck pain and back pain
- Sciatica and nerve pain
- Inflammatory and autoimmune conditions
- Women's health concerns
- Stress, sleep and fatigue
What to Expect at Your Visit
An acupuncture visit here:
- Consultation and Exam: A full history, because the questions asked are different from a chiropractic intake.
- Your Treatment: Points selected for you, adjusted session to session based on how you responded.
- Comfort-Focused Care: Needle-free options are available if you would rather begin that way.
- Herbal Support: Recommended only where it adds something, not by default.
Acupuncture runs on its own schedule, separate from chiropractic hours, so check the times before you book.
A Different Way In
If manual care has taken you as far as it can, acupuncture is worth a conversation with either of our licensed practitioners. Both practitioners will tell you honestly whether acupuncture is likely to help your particular presentation before you commit to a course of it. Dr. Camardella and Dr. Alwazan bring different emphases, and we will point you toward whichever is the better fit.
