Some problems do not sit neatly in one specialty. Pain that moves, inflammation with no single source, fatigue that no one can account for, symptoms that have been investigated separately and never together.
Dr. Tiffani Alwazan practises at Momentum Health Center in Arlington Heights and brings over 20 years to exactly that kind of case. She holds a master's in acupuncture and herbal medicine as valedictorian, a doctorate in naturopathic medicine as salutatorian, a doctorate in chiropractic medicine, and a master's in marriage and family therapy, all with honors. She interned at the Stroger Hospital Pain Clinic and the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, has co-authored manuscripts on conservative care for orthopedic conditions, and she is bilingual. In Illinois she practises under her acupuncture licence.
What Does Integrative Care Involve Here?
It starts with a longer conversation than you are probably used to. The point is to look at how your systems interact rather than at one symptom in isolation, drawing on acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutrition and lifestyle alongside whatever conventional care you already have in place. This is complementary care. It sits beside your physician rather than replacing them, and where something needs a medical work-up we will say so and help you get it. Expect to be asked about sleep, digestion, stress and the timeline of how things developed, because those are the threads that usually connect symptoms that have been treated separately.
Benefits of Integrative Care
What this approach is most useful for:
- Whole-Picture Assessment: Your systems are looked at together rather than one complaint at a time.
- Chronic Pain and Inflammation: Particularly where a structural cause alone has not explained things.
- Autoimmune Conditions: Supportive care alongside your existing medical management.
- Women's Health: A specific focus of Dr. Alwazan's clinical practice.
- Herbal Medicine: Custom formulas where they are appropriate for you.
- Coordinated With the Rest of Your Care: The chiropractic and acupuncture teams share the same building and the same notes.
Common Conditions Integrative Care May Help
Patients most often come to Dr. Alwazan about:
- Chronic pain that has been investigated without resolution
- Systemic inflammation
- Autoimmune conditions
- Women's health concerns
- Stress, sleep and mood
- Recovery support alongside back pain or neck pain care
What to Expect at Your Visit
What a first integrative visit looks like:
- An Extended Consultation: Considerably longer than a standard appointment, because the history matters.
- Whole-System Review: How your symptoms relate to each other, not just what hurts most.
- A Plan You Understand: Explained in plain words, with the reasoning behind each part.
- Referral Where Needed: If something calls for a medical work-up, we will tell you.
This is complementary care and works best alongside your physician, not instead of them.
When Nothing Has Quite Added Up
If you have been passed between specialists without a picture that makes sense, a longer conversation with someone trained across several disciplines is a reasonable next step. Dr. Alwazan will tell you at the outset whether she believes she can help, and she is direct about the limits of what integrative care contributes. Consultations are longer than a standard visit, so allow extra time for the first one.
